With the weather warming up it is time for a Redsmith gin South Side cocktail!

  • 50 ml Redsmith London Dry Gin
  • 25 ml lemon juice, finely strained
  • 15 ml sugar syrup
  • 6 mint leaves

Shake well with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Mixed with few, easily available ingredients, the South Side delivers refreshing complexity.

Variations include lime juice instead of lemon, or a mix of the two and the addition of soda water making a South Side Fizz.
Topping with champagne creates a South Side Royale.

The history of the South Side is somewhat hazy, but was probably invented around the turn of the twentieth century in New York.

During the prohibition era in the United States the South Side gained popularity and became the favourite drink of Al Capone and his gangsters on Chicago's South Side.
